Don't Be a Plant Downer: Water Smarter
Share
Most houseplants are killed with kindness. Overwatering is the number one mistake, but don’t worry, it’s easy to fix.
Here’s how to water like a pro:
-
Stick your finger into the soil about an inch deep. If it’s dry, it’s time to water. If it’s damp, wait a few days.
-
Water thoroughly until it runs out of the drainage hole, then let the plant dry out before watering again.
-
Use room-temperature water. Cold water can shock roots and slow growth.
-
Watch for signs. Yellow leaves? Probably too much water. Crispy brown tips? Might be too little.
Plants don’t run on a schedule. Listen to them instead of the calendar.
